Introduction
The Wairarapa College Supported Learning Centre provides a high quality education service for students of secondary school age who are intellectually and / or physically challenged, who reside in the Wairarapa and who are referred through Specialist Education Services.
We arrange full mainstreaming in any curriculum area which is appropriate for the pupil. Programmes are individually designed to meet the needs of pupils. Skilled and experienced teachers plus trained support staff can provide full curriculum plus community life-skills for older students.
We teach students who are physically disabled to use computers as a form of communication and also to enhance their learning.
Physiotherapy
Daily motor and sensory therapy programmes are provided to help young people reach as much independence as possible. These programmes include individual sessions: Riding for the Disabled, Swimming, Physical Education and Music Therapy.
Speech Language Therapy
Individual programmes for students who have problems speaking, understanding or expressing language are readily available.
