Wairarapa College prefects marched in the Anzac Day Dawn Parade in Masterton and laid a wreath during the service. WaiCol prefects have been keeping this tradition for over 25 years. Prefects represented the college in Wellington also. On Tuesday morning three prefects and Year 13 dean Cathy Mabey attended the Cullen Breakfast where prefect Annissa Greenlees spoke about the Featherston Military Camp.
On Anzac Day Annissa, Mikael Starzynski, Lizzie Bysouth and Edward Frost-Henry and Mrs Mabey were invited to attend the Anzac Day service held at Pukeahu National War Memorial Park. After attending the Dawn Parade in the morning, they travelled to Wellington. Annissa, whose mother is Turkish, had been invited by the Turkish Embassy to speak, along with two other Wellington students. Part of her speech was in Turkish, quoting Mustafa Ataturk’s words to the families of the Anzac soldiers who lost their lives in the Gallipoli campaign.
