An intimate musical evening gave Wairarapa College Year 13 music students a chance to perform for family and friends and also to gain NCEA Level 3 credits.

Seven students performed solo and group performances using the guitar, saxophone, drums, vocals, piano and trumpet across a range of classical and contemporary pieces. Family and friends of the musicians were seated at tables on the college hall stage to watch the performances. The college’s jazz band Mojo also performed.

Head of Music Belinda Carey was very proud of the students’ achievements and the progress they have made through their WaiCol years.

‘The performances reflect a minimum of five years learning an instrument at school and participating in school music groups,’ she says.

The seven students Tommy Martin, Frank Dickson, Destiny Tom, Molly O’Hagan, Daniel Lelievre, Byron Bunny and Chev Fraser have been strongly involved in all aspects of music in the school lending their skills and expertise to many performances and productions including taking lead musical roles in events like house singing.

Chev, Molly and Daniel are also entering Scholarship in Music.
